The Friends of the Bristol Animal Shelter is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization located in Bristol, Rhode Island.
The mission of the Friends of the Bristol Animal Shelter is to assist the Town of Bristol in their efforts to provide a safe and healthy environment for the sick, abused, abandoned and homeless animals that come into the care of the Bristol Animal Shelter until they find their forever home. To that end, we will provide funding for routine and emergency veterinary services for the animals in their care. We are also committed to promoting humane education in order to reduce the neglect, abuse and abandonment of companion animals.
In 2008, Friends campaigned for a new animal shelter. That November, Bristol residents overwhelmingly approved a bond referendum for the construction of a new, state of the art animal shelter. The new home of the Bristol Animal Shelter will be a safe, user friendly building that will serve this community for years to come. This essential 7,100 square foot center will be financed, in part, with the $2 million that will include a reception area, safe housing for all homeless companion animals, quarantine and isolation rooms, up to date air purification systems, office and veterinary care spaces, and a Humane Education Center. Upon completion, this public resource will, in the event of a disaster, provide facilities and resources to care for displaced animals.
